What your OVO Energy contract says

We read the OVO Energy terms on 12 April 2026. The company may have changed them since, and your contract may be different.

In short

This is a domestic electricity supply agreement with OVO Energy, the UK's second-largest energy supplier after absorbing SSE Energy Services in 2020. You pay monthly by direct debit for electricity delivered to your home. OVO offers fixed and flexible (variable) tariffs. On the flexible tariff, your rates can change with 30 days' notice up to the Ofgem price cap. OVO also offers a 'green' tariff backed by renewable energy certificates. OVO is regulated by Ofgem under the Electricity Act 1989 and is a signatory to the Energy Switch Guarantee.

What you agree to do

  • You must pay your monthly direct debit on the agreed date.
  • You must submit metre readings when requested, or allow OVO access to read your metre.
  • You must inform OVO of any changes to your address, bank details, or circumstances.
  • You must not tamper with or damage the electricity metre.

What you can ask for

  • You can switch to another supplier at any time without exit fees on the flexible tariff.
  • You can cancel within 14 days of signing up under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
  • You have the right to request a smart metre installation at no cost.
  • You can earn OVO Greenlight rewards (interest on credit balances) if your account is in credit.
  • You can take unresolved complaints to the Energy Ombudsman after 8 weeks.

Points worth knowing

  • Flexible tariff rates can increase with limited noticeOn OVO's flexible tariff, your unit rate and standing charge can rise with 30 days' notice, up to the Ofgem price cap. Bills can increase significantly between price cap reviews.
  • Exit fees on fixed-rate plansLeaving a fixed-rate plan before the end date may incur an exit fee (typically £25-£50 per fuel). You could be locked in even if cheaper deals appear elsewhere.
  • Auto-rollover to flexible tariffWhen your fixed deal expires, OVO automatically moves you to the flexible (variable) tariff, which is usually more expensive. You need to actively select a new deal.
  • Estimated billing can cause bill shockWithout regular metre readings, OVO estimates your consumption. Actual readings may trigger large catch-up bills if estimates were too low.
