What your Apple TV+ contract says

In short

This is a streaming subscription agreement with Apple for its Apple TV+ service. Apple TV+ is Apple's original-content streaming platform (unlike Netflix or Prime Video, essentially all content is Apple-produced originals, so the library is smaller but entirely exclusive). The subscription auto-renews monthly or can be included in an Apple One bundle. Apple frequently offers extended free trials (3 months with a new Apple device purchase). Under California's automatic renewal law (Bus. & Prof. Code §17600), Apple must provide clear cancellation procedures and get your affirmative consent before each renewal. Apple's terms also allow Family Sharing, so up to 5 other family members can share your subscription.

What you agree to do

• You must pay your monthly subscription fee by the billing date.
• You must not download, copy, redistribute, or publicly display any Apple TV+ content outside the app.
• You must use the Apple TV+ service only through authorized Apple apps and devices.
• You must not share your Apple ID credentials with people outside your Family Sharing group.

What you can ask for

• You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings (cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period).
• You can share your subscription with up to 5 family members through Apple Family Sharing at no extra cost.
• You can download Apple TV+ titles for offline viewing on Apple devices.
• You have the right to request deletion of your personal data under the CCPA.

Points worth knowing

• Unilateral price increasesApple can raise the subscription price with advance notice. Apple TV+ has already increased from $4.99 to $9.99/month since launch. Under CA Bus. & Prof. Code §17602, Apple must clearly disclose changes, but your only option is to cancel.
• Smaller content library than competitorsApple TV+ focuses exclusively on original content, so the total library is much smaller than Netflix, Prime Video, or Max. If Apple slows production, the value proposition can decline without a formal terms change.
• Binding arbitration clauseApple's Media Services Terms include a binding arbitration provision. You waive your right to a jury trial or class action lawsuit. California consumers have limited exceptions under state law.
• Free trial converts to paid automaticallyApple's extended free trials (3 months with device purchase) auto-convert to a paid subscription. Under CA Bus. & Prof. Code §17601, Apple must send a reminder before charging, but many users miss it.
