What your Amazon Prime Video contract says

This is a streaming subscription agreement with Amazon for its Prime Video service. Prime Video can be accessed standalone or as part of an Amazon Prime membership. You get access to a library of movies and TV shows, but many popular titles require additional rental or purchase payments (the "included with Prime" library is separate from the paid catalog). Amazon can change the available content at any time. If you subscribe through Amazon Prime, your subscription auto-renews annually or monthly. Under California's automatic renewal law (Bus. & Prof. Code §17600), Amazon must provide clear cancellation procedures and get your affirmative consent before renewing. Amazon's terms also include an advertising-supported tier and an ad-free option at a higher price.

What you agree to do

• You must pay your subscription fee (monthly or annual) by the billing date.
• You must not download, copy, redistribute, or publicly display any Prime Video content.
• You must not use VPNs or other tools to circumvent geographic content restrictions.
• You must not share your account credentials with people outside your household.

What you can ask for

• You can cancel your subscription at any time (if you cancel an annual plan within 3 days and haven't used benefits, you get a full refund).
• You can download select titles for offline viewing on supported devices.
• You can opt out of interest-based advertising through Amazon's privacy settings under the CCPA.
• You have the right to receive notice before any price increase takes effect, per CA Bus. & Prof. Code §17602.

Points worth knowing

• Content library changes without noticeAmazon can add or remove any title from the "included with Prime" library at any time. Content you were watching can disappear without warning, and there is no obligation to keep any specific title available.
• Price increases on subscriptionAmazon can raise the price of Prime or Prime Video with advance notice. Prime membership has increased multiple times (from $79/year in 2014 to $139/year by 2022 and beyond). Your only option is to cancel.
• Ads introduced to previously ad-free serviceAmazon added advertisements to Prime Video in 2024, charging an additional fee for the ad-free experience. This changed the nature of the service for existing subscribers.
• Binding arbitration clauseAmazon's Conditions of Use include a binding arbitration agreement. You waive your right to a jury trial or class action. Under the CCPA, certain data-related claims may still be pursued in court.
• Automatic renewal chargesYour subscription auto-renews each billing cycle. Under CA Bus. & Prof. Code §17601, Amazon must provide clear cancellation, but if you forget, charges continue indefinitely.
