What your Jet2 contract says
We read the Jet2 terms on 28 April 2026. The company may have changed them since, and your contract may be different.
In short
Jet2.com's Terms and Conditions of Carriage form the contract for each ticketed flight, and Jet2holidays packages are governed in addition by the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 with full ATOL protection. UK departures are subject to UK Regulation 261/2004, the Montreal Convention 1999 for international flights, and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Jet2 sells flights as a single 'all-in' product rather than the unbundled fare ladder used by Ryanair or easyJet: a 10 kg cabin bag and a small underseat bag are included on every fare, with optional add-ons for hold luggage, reserved seats, in-flight meals, and Premium Economy on selected long-haul. Jet2 is consistently rated the UK's best airline by Which? and runs a strong customer-service reputation. Unresolved complaints can be escalated free of charge to AviationADR (a CAA-approved ADR provider). Jet2 is regulated by the CAA, holds an ATOL for its package side and an ABTA membership.
What you agree to do
- You must check in online (free) from 28 days before departure and arrive at bag drop at least 40 minutes before departure; gates close 30 minutes before take-off.
- Cabin baggage allowance is one 10 kg cabin bag (max 56x45x25 cm) plus a small underseat bag (included on every fare without an upsell).
- Hold bags are sold per booking and are cheapest at the time of booking; later additions and airport-bought hold bags cost more.
- Name changes are permitted up to a published cut-off and incur a per-passenger fee (typically around £35 online); date or destination changes are not permitted on the standard ticket (you must cancel and rebook subject to fare rules).
What you can ask for
- If your flight is cancelled, you have the right to a full refund within 7 days or rerouting at the earliest opportunity (UK Reg. 261/2004).
- For cancellations less than 14 days before departure (and not extraordinary circumstances), compensation is £220 for journeys up to 1,500 km, £350 for 1,500-3,500 km, and £520 for over 3,500 km.
- For arrival delays of 3+ hours on a cause within Jet2's control, the same £220/£350/£520 compensation scale applies.
- During disruption you are entitled to a duty of care: meals proportionate to the wait, two communications, and hotel plus airport transfers if an overnight stay is needed.
- If you booked a Jet2holidays package, you have full ATOL protection (your money is refunded if the company fails, and you have full Package Travel Regulations rights to a like-for-like replacement or refund if any element of the package fails materially).
- If Jet2 does not resolve your complaint within 8 weeks, you can refer it free of charge to AviationADR; package complaints can also go to ABTA.
Points worth knowing
- Date and destination changes effectively impossible without rebookingUnlike full-service airlines, Jet2.com does not offer a paid 'change' on most fares (you have to cancel (forfeiting the fare) and rebook at the new live price). Plan dates carefully at booking.
- Limited route network and seasonal capacityJet2 concentrates on UK-to-leisure-destination routes from northern English and Scottish bases. If your flight is cancelled, rerouting on Jet2 the same day is often impossible and you may need to insist on rerouting via another carrier (which UK Reg. 261/2004 entitles you to).
- Add-on creep at bookingWhile the base fare includes generous cabin baggage, the booking flow heavily upsells seat selection, hold bags, in-flight meals and 'VIP' lounge access. Decline these explicitly if you do not need them (they are not included in the headline fare).
- Voucher-first refund nudge during mass disruptionIn a few high-disruption cases (volcano, mass strikes) Jet2's flow has defaulted to travel credit. The statutory entitlement is a cash refund within 7 days; insisting in writing usually secures it.
- Air Passenger Duty refundable only on requestAll UK departures include APD. On a no-show non-refundable ticket the APD portion is reclaimable on request, subject to a per-passenger admin fee.
